Or, Is this you?

July 13, 20253 min read

You know when you’re just going about your day—handling life—and then someone says something, or something small happens, and suddenly, it’s like a switch flips?

In an instant, you’re not just you anymore—you’re that scared, anxious little kid again. You hear your parents’ or an ex-partners criticism in your head, feel their doubt, or sense the sting of their neglect, and life doesn’t feel safe anymore. Just like that, you’re completely overwhelmed and overstimulated.

Your whole life comes to a full stop. You can’t focus. You check out of the conversation, step away from the activity, or feel resentment and anger rise as you force yourself to push through—despite your entire inner world turning upside down.

It happens in your relationships, in your work, at home, in the goals you want to show up for—but instead, you feel stuck, exhausted, and unable to move forward the way you want to. And you don’t know why it keeps happening—only that you wish it didn’t.

If this resonates with you, I want you to know this:

Even if it feels like there’s no way out—even if you’ve read all the books, taken the programs, gone to years of therapy, and nothing changes (or the change is painfully slow)—there is a gentle, simple way to shift this.

A way that allows you to calm those inner reactions, show up fully in your relationships, move forward in your goals, and handle emotions with ease.

We hear a lot about regulating the nervous system, choosing our mindset, and "letting go" of what is no longer serving us. And while these are important, they aren’t enough on their own. Because this isn’t something you can just choose to change.

In the battle of mind over reaction, or mind over nervous system, your nervous system always wins.

You cannot think your way out of triggers. Science proves that when you’re activated in fight or flight, you actually can’t think at all. Your brain shuts out your prefrontal cortex—the part that helps you reason and make decisions—because in that moment, survival takes over. It doesn’t pause to consider how you feel about the situation.

Thus, we find ourselves in the endless loop of getting dis-regulated and then spending our time and energy to re-regulate, only to get dis-regulated again. Over and over and over again.

That’s why it’s so important to understand what’s at the core of our triggers. We can cut away at the branches all day long, every day, for the rest of our lives. But until we treat the roots, we won’t see real change. We'll keep producing the same "fruit". We’ll keep spending an exhausting amount of time and energy trying to manage the symptoms, instead of addressing what’s truly stuck in our body.

When we go straight to the source—when we honor and release what’s been holding us back—that’s when we finally free ourselves to live fully in the present. No longer getting flung into experiences of the past.

If you’re reading this, you’re probably standing on the doorstep of real transformation and healing. You have the knowledge, the tools, the desire —but you just can’t figure out what’s missing to actually get the results you so desperately want.
